The Benefits of Massage
Most people would agree that getting a massage makes us feel good, but did you know that regular massage can have a positive impact on your general health? Regular massage helps tension reduction, improves vascular and lymphatic circulation, regulates the nervous system, provides relief from stress and sore muscles, aids recovery, prevents and eliminates injury, improves flexibility and removes toxins from the body.
Remedial is one of the most popular forms of massage therapy as it addresses the aches, pains and injuries we all seem to suffer from at some stage in life. Remedial Massage is a varied therapy and combines a number of different techniques such as massage, trigger points, myofascial release and lymphatic drainage techniques to work on damaged or sore muscles, soft tissue or joints.
Along with Remedial Massage, Springwood Natural Health Clinic also offers;
Deep Tissue. Deep Tissue Massage is designed to relieve severe tension in the muscles. It focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue and is especially helpful for tense and contracted areas; such as a stiff neck, lower back tightness or sore shoulders.
Sports. Sports Massage isn't just for athletes. This form of Swedish Massage emphasizes prevention and healing of injuries of the muscles and tendons. It also assists those with chronic pain or restricted range of motion. A sports massage is ideal if you have a specific problem (such as a frozen shoulder or pulled hamstring), as the Massage Therapist will concentrate on this area.
Relaxation. What is the first thing you want to do after a busy, stressful week? RELAX! A Relaxation Massage uses smooth-flowing movement to reduce stress, improve circulation, ease tired muscles and provide a 'time-out' to restore and rejuvenate your mind and body.
Musculoskeletal Therapy. Musculoskeletal Therapy is a 'hands-on' treatment of muscles and soft body tissues to reduce pain, stiffness, tension, aches, as well as to increase the mobility of the joints. For further information, click here.
Cupping. Cupping therapy is an advanced form of Chinese Medicine and is performed through the application of placing cups on the skin on specific 'pressure points' or tight muscles. This helps alleviate pain, removes toxins and allows the body to feel restored and rested. The cups are fitted with a valve that attaches to a small hand-operated pump, allowing the practitioner to remove air from the enclosed area.
Cupping is generally recommended for the treatment of pain, gastrointestinal disorders, lung diseases (especially chronic cough and asthma), and paralysis, although it does have application for other problems. Cupping can affect the body up to four inches into the tissues, causing the tissues to release toxins, activate the lymphatic system, clear colon blockages, activate and clear the veins, arteries and capillaries, activate the skin, clear stretch marks, and improve the appearance of varicose veins. Your Therapist can incorporate Cupping into your Massage treatment.
Avoid alcohol and smoking for at least 24 hours after treatment. A massage treatment is detoxifying and the effects of caffeine and tobacco smoke can lessen the benefits.
Massage after-care advice

You may experience headaches or dizziness. This is a sign that the body is releasing stored stress and tension.
Drink plenty of fresh water or herbal teas. Massage is a cleansing treatment. Drinking lots of fresh water or herbal teas will assist in the elimination of toxins from the body and aid the healing process.
Eat light meals. Fresh and natural foods are advisable, as over refined and processed foods add to the toxicity of the body.
Enjoy rest and relaxation. The feeling of tiredness / relaxation will be replaced with energy and vitality!
